Educational Workshops

Haworth Parsonage was once the home of the Brontė family and is where Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontė wrote the books which have made them world famous, including Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. The Parsonage Museum now provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the three sisters and of Victorian Haworth. It also offers an exciting, cross-curricular education service committed to imagination and creativity in learning.

Take a look at what's on offer..... Most combinations of workshops are available, and we will always do our best to tailor your visit to meet with your needs.

Brontė Treasures   A, A/S Level  

How can the objects a person has owned give us access to thier lives and imaginations? This workshop offers a unique opportunity to examine some rarely seen Brontė artefacts and explore what they tell us about their lives and works. £10.50 per student (includes admission to the museum)

High Waving Heather   KS2  KS3  

Explore the unique habitat of the moors which so inspired the Brontė family, in our exciting new workshop. Discover the creatures and plants that live there, and find out about how people have changed the landscape, and what we can do to help protect it. This is a cross curricular workshop, and is particularly relevant to science (Life Processes), history (Victorian Britain, Local History), geography (How the Environment is Changing), and citizenship, although it can be designed to fit your requirements.  £6.50 per pupil - 1 hour 30 mins,   £7.75per pupil - 2 hours 30 mins (includes admission to the museum)

Why not come and take part in one of our artefact workshops? Through a range of intriguing objects these sessions encourage a hands-on approach to the lives and works of the famous Brontė family. KS1 Everyday Life in the Past, KS2 Victorian Britain. £5.25 per pupil  (includes admission to the museum)

Brontės Alive   KS2  KS3  KS4

Enter the world of the Brontės by taking part in one of our drama workshops. Find out about what life was like for the Brontes, meet some of the colourful characters that knew them, and then step right into one of the famous sisters stories with a fun role-play/drama session. KS2 Victorians Britain, KS3, KS4 Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights.  £5.25 per pupil  (includes admission to the museum)

Victorian School Lesson   KS1 KS2  KS3

Step back in time, and bring to life the actual school room the Brontės themselves taught in. Dress in costume and come and experience how different school would have been for children in the Victorian times in this exciting new workshop. KS1 Everyday Life in the Past, KS2 Victorian Britain, KS3 Industrialisation.  £6.50 per pupil (includes admission to the museum)

Scribblemania   KS2  KS3

Follow in the Brontės' footsteps through one of our new creative writing workshops. Using artefacts, the atmospheric rooms of the Parsonage and the surrounding landscape as inspiration, these workshops give you the chance to become Scribblemaniacs and produce some writing of your own. 
£5.25 per pupil  (includes admission to the museum)
Special writing days for A level students, led by a resident Poet, are also available - contact the Education Officer for more details

Interpretations of Wuthering Heights   A, A/S Level            

Interpretations of Jane Eyre   A, A/S Level

What were the reactions to the novels Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre when they were first published? How have our ideas about their meaning changed since? Explore some of the intriguing theories and endless re-interpretations of these fascinating novels.  £6.25 per student. (includes admission to the museum.)

Talks and Walks  KS2, 3, 4,  A, A/S Level

A range of talks and guided walks are now available, looking at all aspects of the Brontės, including what the village of Haworth was like in the their time and at the fascinating social/historical context of the Brontės' writing. KS2, 3 & 4, GCSE & A Level. Also relevant for further/higher education groups.  £5.25 per pupil KS2 KS3 KS4.  £6.25 per student  A, A/S level and above (includes admission to the museum)

That's right ... the Brontės are out and about, so why not invite them to your school? In-school workshops now available. KS1 Life in the Past & Famous faces, KS2 Victorian Life, KS3 Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights. £3.00 per pupil + mileage.

These resource packs, focusing on Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, include a range of cross-curricular ideas and activities for KS3.  £3.50 per pack + £1.00 p&p
